Policy Spotlight & Updates
I've always tried to approach how I operate to be a little more flexible but over the years there have been instances that forced my hand to change things around a little bit. One of the big changes for me many years ago was having to insist on deposits being paid before I'd confirm a shooting date.
I decided to take a moment to highlight a few of my policies that I've been a little bit lax on but recently its just gotten out of hand and I want to explain why they are important and also add something new that I had not considered. You can find my policies under info/rates
"You are allowed up to two reschedules, however they must be rescheduled within 30 days of your original shooting date. Reschedules must give at least 24 hours notice. If you reschedule more than twice, your non-refundable deposit is forfeit and you must pay another deposit to book a session."
I hate having to take a hard stance on this but it's become obvious that I must. First off, two reschedules, that is not for weather. This is for other things that come up on your end. I'm a very understanding person with emergencies, but generally speaking people don't reschedule more than twice for emergencies. The biggest reason I'm having to reiterate this policy is when I give you a date for our session, I close my books, especially when it's an out of town shoot. That means when other people ask me for that date, I let them know I am booked and at times they can't schedule for another day. I've actually lost a wedding before because I was booked for a mini session in another locale who then cancelled on me the morning of. It happens and it sucks. When you book a date, and then I close the books, and then you message to change the date to another date, I may have turned away people already, and then I fill another date with our session, and then may turn away other people for that date, and then you reschedule again. It's been happening way too often lately.
"Making deposits transferable."
I had not thought about this before, but I did have someone have to reschedule a session and then ask if they could give their deposit to a friend for a session. I am going to be adding this to the policy, and going forward if you pay a deposit and can't make your session, you are allowed to transfer it to a friend, however the two reschedules counts and it still must be shot within a 30 day window of the original shooting date. So if you had to reschedule instead of your friend taking that original shooting date, then there would be one reschedule left and it must be shot within 30 days.
For now those are the biggest policies I wanted to spotlight. I hate having to talk about this side of business, but it seems ever so often things shift a little bit and you get a lot of certain things happening to where you gotta change things around a little bit. Have a great day!
