What's your Passion?
A few weeks ago I got to go out to Washington/Oregon to visit some family and do some shooting. It was a great trip! One evening I got on Netflix on my phone, because I love to listen to documentaries while I go to sleep, and I started listening to Minimalism. It was a great documentary and I went out and downloaded one of their audiobooks. One of the things about it that stuck out to me is talking about passion.
A lot of times passion is kinda used in the same context as something we're excited about. It's something we really enjoy. Excitement fades however and a lot of times we move onto something else. Passion is something deeper. Something that we battle through. Sometimes that thing might not come so easy and we have to work our ass off for it and it's all the better that we did because we appreciate it more. It made me think to myself, what am I passionate about?
Truthfully, I am passionate about photography. I started off knowing nothing about cameras or photoshop, and I've spent years working, reading articles, and trial and error to get to the place I am so far, and I still want nothing more than to grow and learn to do a better job. I do have projects that are super important to me on a personal level, and I'm extremely passionate about those. However I get to capture photos for people that and see that look on their face when they see the back of the camera and can't believe it. I get to capture big days, and the laughter of a toddler, or the last days of a beloved pet, or photos of a garage band in their teens, and each of these are memories for someone and that is such an amazing thing. I shoot film, and I shoot digital and both are such amazing avenues to get to capture different looks and styles for people. Getting to do photography has been such an amazing experience that has allowed me to find my passion in life and meet amazing people.
So whether I'm photographing a model, or a family, or a boudoir session, or out shooting landscapes, or even photographing toys; I want to thank you guys for allowing me to find my passion and I hope that what I do brings some enjoyment to you. What are you guys passionate about?
